It is such a joy to be a Fort Collins Wedding photographer. With the endless photo opportunities in Colorado it can be a challenge to find the right spot to take your families photo at for a Christmas Card or special occasion. While much of my work is centered around the wedding industry - I often get asked where I like to take couples and groups for scenic spots in and around the Fort Collins area, Here are a few of my favorite locations to take group photos at.
Bingham Hill Park
Location · Website
This is one of my favorite places to catch a sunset in Fort Collins, Colorado. Grab a blanket and a picnic basket and head up to Bingham Hill for a truly spectacular view. Pictured here is a couple getting engaged.
Reservoir Ridge Natural Area - Bobolink spur Reservoir Ridge Trailhead
Website · Location
When the light and weather is right - this has to be one of my all time favorite locations to take photos at. You will find a lot of other professionals using this spot during the prime season. Make sure to check out the website to see if they have the trails closed due to mud.
Old Fort Collins High School - Annual Flower Trial Garden
If you time it right - you can expect brilliant colors from the various flowering plants. This is a great spot to take family photos that will last a lifetime!
Raptor Observatory - Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area
The entire Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area makes me feel like you are in the rolling hills of Scotland and yet you never left Fort Collins. There are countless ways to go about capturing this area - but - I like the Raptor Observatory because you are able to get up high and see the foothills. A truly great spot!
CSU Oval - School of Environmental Sustainability
When someone thinks of CSU - their mind often drifts immediately to the CSU Oval. While this is a great place to take family photos - I would highly suggest finding unique locations around the oval. That way you can get your Oval shot and then have some more variety. This building is an easy walk and is worth it!
CSU Environmental Learning Center
There is so many different shots that you can take throughout this whole area! When you have a free moment and are not all dressed up for photos - make sure to come back here and explore. I love that within a few minute drive you feel like you have left Fort Collins entirely and are in the middle of the woods.
Old Firehouse Alley
If you are looking for an urban setting - this is your bread and butter. There are so many different looks up and down this alley that you will think it was made for photographers. If you time it right - the lighting in this alley will be your best friend.
There are many other places to take photos in Fort Collins - but that will be for another blog post. Enjoy the time you have with family and have fun on your next family portrait outing!
If I can be of any further assistance - don’t hesitate to reach out.
Have a great day and God Bless!
